As an added value to the LINK 4 Cooperation project, outside the framework of regular project activities, representatives of the project consortium together with representatives of the City of Prijedor and the Municipalities of Novi Grad, Kostajnica and Maglaj, passed a three-day training organized by the Council of Europe, which was held from 17th till 19th of November, 2021 in Sarajevo.
The Academy on Civil Participation was realized in cooperation with our project partner, the European Association for Local Democracy – ALDA, and promotes the standards of social participation of the Council of Europe and informs about key concepts and tools of participatory democracy, while strengthening interaction between local authorities and civil society organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The aim of the Academy was to raise awareness of dialogue with citizens and decision makers, offering suggestions and guidance on how to achieve more effective civic engagement during the political decision-making process.
In the context of the LINK 4 Cooperation project, the Academy provided project beneficiaries (primarily local government representatives) with an improved understanding of the concept of participatory democracy, and transferred knowledge and skills to overcome participatory challenges at the local level. The training encouraged the strengthening of mutual understanding and cooperation between CSOs and local public officials, as well as the creation of a platform for exchange and networking.
